The healthcare profession and the general population whispered the word “Menopause” for decades. This naturally occurring health concern is still the punchline in many jokes. Recently, the condition has been studied and treated as a serious concern. After Hormone Replacement Therapy was denied to most experiencing the challenge, due to faulty research, many women have been left to fend for themselves. This meant hot flashes, brain fog, mood swings, night sweats, and dry everything! Skin, hair, and vaginas are treated with mostly anecdotal remedies passed around in women's circles.
Menopause is now often treated by gynecologists who specialize in assisting their patients through the transition. Dr. Dawn Mandeville is one such specialist who hosts information sessions known as Menopause and Mocktails. She’ll host several gatherings throughout the year.
On February 7th, Mandeville invites us to attend a screening of The M Factor 2, which focuses on “Peri-Menopause.” I asked Mandeville about Hormone Replacement Therapy and the research that ended the practice. Health professionals are still reluctant to prescribe this therapy for menopause symptoms. The “good news” is that more and more women and healthcare professionals are talking about menopause. Additionally, the “Black Box” warning will be removed from HRT prescriptions.
Mandeville speaks about the women in her generation who are demanding solutions. She also shares that there are several robust research studies taking place. She speaks about the growing specialization in midlife care of women.
Register to attend The M Factor 2 at the Tara Theatre on February 7th. For more information on Dr. Mandeville and her work, visit her website and follow her on Instagram.
