Local artist Sharon B. Dowdell has work in a new exhibition, The Journey Of A Black Girl, on display at the C Brooks Gallery at 430 Englewood in Atlanta through March 28th. The exhibition includes work from a variety of artists.

Dowdell speaks about her work in this exhibition curated by gallery owner Courtney Brooks. She explains that her work focuses on chronicling the lives of women. She travels all over the world capturing the culture of women. Dowdell shares that she captured some work while in Cartegena Columbia. This meant that her work was already in the Journey of a Black Girl theme. Artist talks in support of the exhibition are scheduled for February 21st and March 28th.

As an artist, Dowdell often includes mixed media in her work, and I asked her about how an artist knows when and what to add to enhance a work. For other artists who are interested in curating or participating in an exhibition, I asked Dowdell what advice she provides.

Dowdell also had work in the “Everybody Loves A Circus” exhibition at the ArtsxChange in East Point last year.
