In January, Sarah Tanner, the archivist at the AUC Woodruff Library, indicated that the library would be interested in collecting Olympic Stories from our community.

Thirty years ago, the 1996 Olympics were hosted here in Atlanta, and many of us have stories. Tiffany Atwater Lee from the AUC Woodruff Library joins us to speak about the upcoming Olympic exhibition and the opportunity to share your Olympic Story.

Lee speaks about the exhibition “The Eternal Flame: The Games That Changed Atlanta.” The exhibition highlights the vast materials that the library has in its archives. This includes the mayoral papers from the Jackson and Franklin administrations. They also have the papers from Ms. Ingrid Saunders-Jones, a former executive with the Coca-Cola Foundation. They have documents from everything that was happening at that time.

I asked Lee if they are looking for any particular type of story. She speaks about the Olympics having a lasting impact. She specifically speaks to those associated with the Atlanta University Center and their memories of how the 1996 Olympics impacted this community. She speaks about the traffic, the games, the buildings, and the facilities.

Please secure your appointment here and make a date to secure your story in the record books.
