Award winning sports journalist and founder of BowTie Sports, Darryl O. Ledbetter, speaks with us about the FIFA World Cup coming to the Americas and Atlanta! The semi-final round starts on June 15th before the finals in New Jersey in July.

There are several exciting sports stories in Atlanta this spring. I reached out to the award winning sports journalist Darryl Ledbetter, founder of BowTie Sports, to talk with us about the happenings.

Everyone knows that FIFA in in United States is one of the biggest sports stories this year, but before we jump into the international activities, I asked Ledbetter about our local teams, The Atlanta Dream and the Atlanta Braves. The Dream obtained Angel Reese from Chicago and they are playing at State Farm arena. They have started the season 5 and 2. The Braves are currently leading the National League East, Ledbetter mentioned that their defensive play is great and we might be going to another World Series.

Turning to FIFA in Atlanta, Ledbetter explains that it is a rolling tournament taking place between June 11th ending in July in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Eight semi-final games will take place in Atlanta. Ledbetter speaks about the top five teams that includes SPAIN, FRANCE, ENGLAND, BRAZIL and ARGENTINA. There are also upset teams hoping to upset the leaders including team from African that includes ALGERIA, CAPE VERDE, EGYPT, GHANA, EGYPT, MOROCCO, SENEGAL and more. Ledbetter advises us to pick a few teams from the each group to follow and cheer on!

I asked Ledbetter about Atlanta becoming an International Sports City after hosting the Centinial Olympics. He speaks about Atlanta becoming the city for major sporting events including Super Bowls, Final Fours and World Series events.

Ledbetter launched BowTie Sports after retiring from an award winning sports writing career. He shares that his new platform will still focus on Football including the Falcons, the Combine, Playoffs and the Super Bowl.
