The annual Black Art in America Foundation Fine Print Fair and Works on Paper Show is happening August 14th - 16th at their location at 1802 Connally Drive in East Point. For collectors or enthusiasts, this is the show for you. Artist and founder of Black Art in America, Najee Dorsey, shares information about this year’s event.
I asked Dorsey about the addition of “Works on Paper” and what it entails. He explains that this is the 2nd year for the addition of unique, one-of-a-kind offerings as a result of requests from past participants at the Fine Print Fair. While many may understand the differences in the value of prints, Dorsey speaks about the value being based on the artist, his career and the rarity of the work. He states that rare prints, those 1 of 5 offerings, are usually valued higher than the 1 of 100 offerings. The works on display at the Fine Print Fair have been vetted, but no one has a crystal ball to guarantee future value.
Dorsey invites anyone who wants to learn more about art to come out to the Fine Print Fair and enjoy the sculpture garden, which is lush due to the summer sun and rain. Folks can find more information and sign up for the newsletter. Dorsey also shares that the Fine Print Fair has also taken place in Houston and a smaller version takes place on the West Coast.
In June, the Woodson African-American Museum commissioned Dorsey to create a new mural for their America 250 Exhibition.
