Ambassador Tunde Adetunji and the Africa Heritage Foundation were recognized this year for their extraordinary contributions to Atlanta's cultural heritage. For five decades, the Foundation and Chief Tunde have advanced the appreciation of African heritage, Cultural diplomacy, International cooperation, Education, and Sustainable Development. Chief Tunde speaks with us about his work.
The Africa Heritage Foundation is an umbrella organization for the 54 nations of Africa. Adetunji speaks about his career, which began with his passion. He started researching and documenting the history of all 54 nations and the five regions which make up the continent. He created an exhibition to Celebrate Africa Throughout the Nations, which was displayed during the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.
Adetunji speaks about his goal of turning Africa’s “brain drain into a brain gain.” He speaks about Atlanta being the best place to launch this effort to reach throughout the diaspora. He expects us to use our education as an economic weapon to bring balance back to the continent. Africans throughout the diaspora are being encouraged to act as “consultants” to provide their expertise to those on the continent. This will help to build enterprises to move the continent forward.
Adetunji explains that we should live a “purposeful life” by helping others. He emphasizes that this legacy of turning the "Brain Drain into Brain Gain" for the continent will result in growth for all involved.
