Thanksgiving

This last Saturday before Thanksgiving, I reached out to Elisabeth Omilami, President and CEO of Hosea Helps about the organization's 50th year serving our community members experiencing food and home insecurity. Hosea Helps is a mainstay, and they do it all with donations from the community.

Saturday morning at 8am on WCLK's The Local Take I talk with Rabbi Steven Lebow from Temple Kol Emeth.  His Cobb County congregation has hosted this service for 15 years. This year's service will be on Thursday, November 21st at 7pm. The event is open to the public and all are welcome.

Rabbi Lebow shares what the Ecumenical Thanksgiving Celebration means to the community and speaks about the other congregations that will participate.

Black Friday is upon us again, which means that Christmas is just around the corner!!!!  It technically could be called Black Thursday, because most retailers open their doors on Thanksgiving evening.  Hence, a lot of traffic on the roads in and around the Atlanta area! Target stores will be open, and Walmart is already 24 hours but will have their traditional Black Friday sales along with other retailers!  Parking lots are expected to fill up early, usually by 6am on Friday morning.  You may want to plan ahead as people will be out trying to get those holiday deals!

Holiday drivers can expect low prices at the pump this Thanksgiving.  A gallon of gas was at a four-year high of two-dollars-and-90-cents in October but has plummeted since then because of growing oil supplies.  AAA says the national average Wednesday was $2.68 per gallon.  Prices could drop even further by the Thursday.  More than 54-million Americans are expected to travel at least 50 miles for Thanksgiving.  According to Google, the best day to leave for the holiday is Thanksgiving Day at 6 a.m.

The airline industry is expecting a record number of travelers this Thanksgiving.  The trade group Airlines for America has released its annual Thanksgiving travel forecast and is expecting a record number of holiday passengers.  They expect over 30-million people will travel on U.S.
