The holidays are a joyous time and Program Directors are always faced with how to program the many incarnations of holiday favorites. It’s easy to stick with the tried and true. I’m for one very hard on remakes. However, when one comes around I’m eager to share it with you. The Donny Hathaway classic This Christmas has been covered by many over the years. But flutist Ragan Whiteside has managed to bring a breezy and fresh twist to this holiday favorite. Ragan stays true the spirit of the original but the arrangement of the song by producer Dennis Johnson demonstrates creativity with a surprising ending making this one of my favorite new holiday songs. He also added Broadcast Hall of Famer Rick Joyner to the weekday line up as host of Serenade to the The City.
