Ben Tankard Shines On Soulfood Sunday

After delivering one of 2021’s biggest songs Just Like Music Ben Tankard is back! Ben’s been making music since childhood, first playing drums in church. This “P.K” (preacher’s kid) once had a promising career in the NBA before hurting his knee before his first season started. Would you believe he was once homeless, and returning to the church turned his life around? In 1990 he recorded Keynote Speaker, leading to gigs with Jon P. Kee, Gerald Albright, Shirley Murdock, and Take 6. Since that time Ben has released 20 projects and won a Stellar Award. Along the way he discovered a 3rd grade teacher named Yolanda Adams and signed her to his independent Tribute label. He went on to produce four albums for her. He credits Yolanda for bringing his production style to the world.

Tankard’s latest song Soul Food Sunday from his new album Shine is undoubtedly inspired by those “after church” Sunday meals which are so much a part the culture. This laidback track is perfect for chill out evenings or quiet Sunday afternoons. Ben continues to be consistent as he cuts out his own lane in the Jazz world. This song will be tasty to your musical palate while providing nourishment to your Jazz soul. There’s no better way feed that hunger than by listening to Serenade to the City with Rick Joyner Monday through Friday at 10pm on Jazz 91.9 WCLK.
