If you ever go to a show with a live band playing you know there is always a time in the set where the band members are introduced to the audience. The highlight is always when someone will inevitably say “let’s give the drummer some”. Well, if you were at a Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan, John Legend, Anita Baker or Gerald Albright show, that drummer was probably Donnell Spencer, Jr.. This Philadelphia native has been keeping the backbeat for some of the biggest artists on the planet including the late Teddy Pendergrass. In 2019, Donnell stepped out front with a single True Love and followed it up with Come On in 2020. In 2021, he teamed up with David P Stevens and Marqueal Jordon for his third release The Game, a jamming song which in my opinion was his real breakthrough single. It became a fan favorite on Jazz 91.9 WCLK. Now Donnell is back with a song that’s perfect for those summer nights when you’re chillin’ with that special someone or just unwinding after a long day. If you don’t believe me check it out as you relax with Debb Moore with Jazz at Sundown or Rick Joyner as he provides a Serenade to The City on Atlanta’s place for Classic Cool & Contemporary Jazz, Jazz 91.9 WCLK.
