Kombo: This Is The Good One
The title of a song can sometimes be misleading and other times it’s a guide to the hook of the song. In this case the title describes the song, because to this programmer, “this is the good one”. If this song had a subtitle it would be This Is The Good One (To Return With) because Kombo has been off the scene since 2001. This duo made up of Keyboardist Ron Pedley (formerly of Maynard Ferguson’s band) and L.A. Session Guitarist John Pondel are both former members of the contemporary jazz group Uncle Festive, which in essence made up Barry Manilow’s band. After forming Kombo they were signed to Verve/GRP for 2 projects The Big Blast and Cookin’ Out. Now in 2022 with the addition of Matt and Gregg Bissonette on bass and drums respectively, they return with this grooving new single that will capture the listener from the first note. In an era where everyone is trying to create a song that sounds like what’s being played on radio, Kombo created a song that radio will find refreshing and a little different and therein lies the magic! This song isn’t one of those 'cookie cutter-do what everyone else is doing songs'. We believe you’ll enjoy it as you chill with Rick Joyner during Serenade To The City on Jazz 91.9 WCLK.
