Sickle Cell Disease Association of America Golf Classic on Friday, Sept. 5

Sickle Cell Disease Association of America Golf Classic on Friday, Sept. 5

The Sickle Cell Disease Association of America Inc., a national nonprofit membership organization that advocates for people affected by sickle cell disease, will hold the inaugural Golf Classic on Friday, Sept. 5, at 8 a.m. at Chapel Hills Golf Club in Douglasville, Georgia. September is Sickle Cell Awareness Month.

“Join us for the inaugural SCDAA Golf Classic, a signature golf tournament offering an unforgettable afternoon of community, purpose and play,” said Regina Hartfield, president and CEO of the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America Inc. “Whether you’re teeing off with a foursome or attending as a supporter, this event is your chance to make an impact on and off the course in support of the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America Inc.”

Following registration, the Golf Classic will kick off with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. with an 18-hole scramble format. The event will feature giveaways, a post-round lunch and awards ceremony and on-course contests, including a closest-to-the-pin competition.

Registration costs $130 for individuals and $500 for four-person teams. Register online at bit.ly/SCDAA_Golf2025.

Sickle cell disease is a rare inherited blood disease causing red blood cells to take a sickle shape, which leads to blockages that prevent blood from reaching parts of the body. As a result, people with sickle cell complications can experience anemia, jaundice, gallstones, stroke, chronic pain, organ damage and premature death. More than 100,000 Americans live with sickle cell disease, and 2 million Americans have sickle cell trait. No universal cure exists.

Sickle Cell Disease Association of America Inc. advocates for people affected by sickle cell conditions and empowers community-based organizations to maximize quality of life and raise public consciousness while advancing the search for a universal cure. The association and more than 55 member organizations support sickle cell research, public and professional health education and patient and community services. (www.sicklecelldisease.org)
