The Stitch Legacy Listening Sessions

The Stitch Legacy Listening Sessions
The Stitch, a transformational civic infrastructure project, proposes to cap the I-75/85 Downtown Connector with 14 acres of new park space and reconnect Downtown and Midtown Atlanta. This ambitious design seeks to repair the damage caused by past “urban renewal” projects and the construction of the interstate, which displaced around 24,000 residents — many from the historically Black neighborhoods of Buttermilk Bottoms, Bedford-Pine, Butler Street, and Old Fourth Ward.
As part of its community engagement process, The Stitch is hosting Legacy Listening Sessions designed to honor displaced communities and invite feedback from legacy residents and their descendants. Attendees will:
Learn more about the goals of The Stitch
Co-create inclusive public memory offerings that represent the demolished neighborhoods.
Share your feedback about what what can bring repair to the displaced community
Participate in a community healing practice.
