Saturday, October 1 at 7:00 a.m on The Local Take on Jazz 91.9 WCLK, I'll speak with Kelli Bacote about BOOK,an Atlanta based non-profit organization that works for Better Outcomes for Our Kids. Ms. Bacote shares how the organization came to be and the activities that they present allowing parents to learn about educational opportunities.
She speaks about public, private, charter and virtual schools. Bactoe also shares how their organization provides information, access and even tours to educate parents about the choices available for their children.
The non partisan organization is hosting a public forum on October 6, 6:30 p.m. at The Gathering Spot, 384 Northyards Blvd., Atlanta, about the Opportunity School District proposal. The proposal is on the November 2016 Georgia ballot. Ms. Bacote shares with us that amendment reads:
Shall the Constitution of Georgia be amended to allow the state to intervene in chronically failing public schools in order to improve student performance? YES of NO
Bacote encourages parents, clergy and concerned citizens to come out on October 6 at 6:30 p.m. to The Gathering Spot where experts on both sides of the issue will address community concerns.
In our conversation I mention the recent Connecticut ruling against funding schools based on housing and the recent studies which find that the US is neglecting the education of smart students.
