The Local Take: EMI-Georgia Network Hosts Expo May 20 To End Mass Incarceration

This week on The Local Take I welcomed back Pamela Perkins-Carn, a community advocate who is involved with EMI-Georgia Network.  I speak with her about this organization and their work specifically in our state to end the school/birth to prison pipeline. The End Mass Incarceration Georgia Network is an intentional association of faith communities, organizations and individuals formed to effect positive change in the area of juvenile and criminal justice.

I ask about Georgia being a leader in imprisionment in our country where 26% of our state's population has a criminal record on file.  Perkins-Carn mentions that there are zip codes in our state that spend up to $1M annually on imprisionment. This is more than our state spends on education at any level.

EMI- Georgia Network meets every 4th Monday at the Atlanta Community Foodbank from 12:30pm - 2:30pm. These meeting are open to the public.  Information and resources are shared with participants.

On May 20th EMI-Georgia Network is hosting a Community Expo for anyone who is impacted by incarceration. They are looking to educate and mobilize community members to advocate for better criminal justice outcomes.
