This week on The Local Take, I reached out to Kathleen Bertrand, singer and Black Girl Magic personified, to talk about her new song My Voice, My Vote, which I'm sure WCLK listeners have been enjoying.

I ask Bertrand about her family's survival during the Pandemic, and she explains that "Testimony #1" is that she's still here.
Bertrand speaks about her relationship with AARP and participating in their "Couch Concert" series. Her concert was assigned the theme the "Power to Vote."
I ask if she could remember the first time she voted or became aware of voting. She speaks about being in Black churches with her family. The church is where the mobilization happened. The community came together at church to educate and inform.
We speak about the voter enthusiasm expressed in the November election and whether it will extend to the Tuesday, January 5th Senate Run-Off Elections.

Our conversation ended with a few thoughts about the 2021 Bronzelens Film Festival. She shares that after the virtual event this year, which drew participants from over 40 countries, they will produce a hybrid in 2021.
