New music this week on Jazz 91.9 WCLK includes Keyboardist Brad Alexander's take on Yearning For Your Love. If music is the soundtrack of our lives, I’m in the second phase. I’m not big on remakes, especially of songs I had a hand in making popular. As a young program director, I was among the first to find this song from the 1980 The GAP Band III album and play it like it was a single. The response was so strong the label released it as a single in 1981 and it became a Top 5 Billboard hit. Brad’s remake of this classic over 40 years later puts a nice Jazz spin to it. It comes from his new release Straight Up (Bcb Entertainment) and the song is sure to have the same affect on many listeners who remember the original. You’re going to love it as you provide the lyrical performance to this instrumental winner during Jazz at Sundown with Debb Moore on Jazz 91.9 WCLK.
David C. Linton is Jazz 91.9 WCLK Program Director and host of Serenade To The City, heard Monday-Friday at 10pm.
