The Local Take Discusses Natural Hair Issues And Rights

This week on The Local Take I speak with Diane Bailey from The Natural Hair Industry Convention taking place in Atlanta November 2nd and 3rd.

I ask Ms. Bailey to share with us the difference between this event and a traditional hair show.

She speaks about The CROWN Act that was recently passed in California and New York.  The laws passed outlaw discrimination against African-Americans who were their hair in natural styles.

Bailey explains that these laws indicate that hair and race are equal.  Discriminatory rules around hair only impact African Americans.  She speaks to the almost daily social media post around children as young as 8 years old being sent home because they wear their hair in a natural style.

This weekend's convention is a gathering of industry professionals along with legal representatives to speak about the challenge of taking the CROWN Act nationwide.
