Check out this week's edition of UPFRONT Inside the Entertainment Industry. It features my salute to Atlanta-based singer-songwriter Donnie and his classic album, THE COLORED SECTION.
The 2002 Motown release recieved critical-acclaim and was applauded for its timely messages about race, gender, spirituality, black male sexuality and freedom. It was praised by such musical icons Prince and Stevie Wonder and gospel diva Kim Burrell and was even featured in the 2002 hip-hop romance "Brown Sugar".
In addition to celebrating the 20th anniversary of THE COLORED SECTION, Donnie will be performing the entire album live later on today in commemoration of our new national holiday---Juneteenth.
Today's UPFRONT show salute also features commentary and tributes from some of Donnie's friends and musical admirers including singer-songwriters Keisha Jackson and Rahbi and WCLK's very own Jamal Ahmad.
