Generation Z is defined as individuals born in the 1990s through the early 2010s. These young adults have come of age in a racially, sexually, and religiously diverse culture. They are social media activists who have always had access to the internet with mobile devices. These young people will redefine work with options we can’t imagine. Many of the desires of other generations are not things they consider important right now. This week we speak with Amari Joseph, a Mass Communications major at Clark Atlanta University.

I ask Amari Joseph what he and his friends speak about when they gather. He shares that they talk about social media Instagram and Facebook. Also, sports, music, and news. He says that they relate to life with the question of how we can better ourselves.

Amari Joseph shares that he is the first in his family to graduate high school. His parents were young when he was born. He speaks about the desire to be with his “people” in choosing to attend Clark Atlanta University. He says that being around people who look like him gives him hope and a belief in Black Success.

In speaking about the importance of mental health Amari Joseph talks about survivor’s remorse and the guilt that he sometimes feels being in Atlanta when many of his friends at home are in ruts. He shares that his generation will need patience and social skills to conquer the future.
