The 2025 AIDS Walk and Music Festival takes place annually in September. The event has grown from a walk to increase awareness to a full-fledged gathering with music headliners. This year, the event is on September 27th at Piedmont Park. This event raises funds for organizations in our community that are doing the work to support and advocate for members of the LGBTQ+ community. Imara Canady, with the AIDS HEALTH FOUNDATION, sponsors of this event, joins us.
Canady confirms that metro-Atlanta is first in the nation for new diagnoses of HIV. While a diagnosis of HIV is no longer a death sentence, it is a chronic disease that requires people to take drugs regularly.
There are not many people who consider themselves at risk of developing a chronic disease due to their weekend activities. The fact remains that you significantly reduce the transference of HIV by using a condom or one of the drugs that prevent the disease, such as PrEP and others. Canady mentions Sheryl Lee Ralph and her husband, Pennsylvania State Senator Vincent Hughes, who shared that they got tested together when they were dating.
The 2025 AIDS Walk and Music Festival will feature musicians Trombone Shorty and CeeLo Green. Canady explains his excitement to announce the headliners for this Party with a Purpose. Registration for participation is open, and you can come for the race, the music, or the day. For more information, visit AIDSWALKATLANTA.ORG
