I was invited to attend a screening of the documentary on a CAU graduate, Brandon “Brannu” Fulton, entitled Brannu: The Urban Horseman. This is the story of a man, a property owner, and his fight to keep his land from being taken by developers and others. The story begins when Brandon is introduced to horse culture as a child by his grandfather. He shares that they rode at Jamaica Bay in New York City on trails that are part of a park and beachfront,

Fulton explains that working with horses is where he finds peace. He spoke about seeing a horseman while with his music buddies in Mexico and thinking that if I could be the “man with the horses” instead of being at a resort, I’d be happy. He pursued his dream by buying a large plot of land South of Atlanta and housing horses that he uses as therapy for young people. Twice officials have confiscated his horses, even though he has never been charged. They returned some of his horses and didn’t find any reason that he couldn’t keep them, but there is still a conflict over the property.

The documentary offers a few solutions including a possible partnership between the county, the City of South Fulton and Brandon Fulton. His horses are healthy and he even limits the amount of time that they provide therapy to his clients. The documentary is being screened in the next few months in the metro area.
