Serenade to the City  on WCLK happens weekdays from 10:00 PM until 2:00 AM overnights with a mix of Contemporary, Classic and Mainstream Jazz.  

Jazz 91.9 WCLK listeners may already know Takuya Kuroda from his trumpet playing in Jose James' band.  Now Hiroda has his first record out on legendary jazz label Blue Note records.  It's called Rising Son, and WCLK PD Aaron Cohen is featuring Piri Piri and Mala in Serenade To The City, overnights.

Serenade To The City Pick Of The Week--T. K. Blue

Multi-instrumentalist T. K. Blue first learned to play tenor sax from Billy Mitchell, whose propulsive playing drove combos for both Count Basie and Dizzy Gillespie.  In the years since, T. K. Blue, aka Talib Kibwe has worked with a whose who of straight ahead jazz including stints with Yusef Lateef, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, and Abdullah Ibrahim/Dollar Brand.

His new release is called A Warm Embrace.  WCLK Program Director Aaron Cohen has pulled the title track and When Sunny Gets Blue for some spins on Serenade To The City, Atlanta's Overnight Jazz Soundtrack(Mon-Fri 10p-2a).

The Kansas City saxophone sound has helped define Jazz from the beginning, from Lester Young and Charlie Parker through to the 21st century.  Saxophonist Bobby Watson has continued the tradition as a player and music educator.  Many of you saw him perform at a WCLK show at The Rialto Center For The Arts a few years back.  Serenade To The City Host(and WCLK Program Director) Aaron Cohen is adding the latest release from Watson, Check Cashing Day to the night-time rotation.  The record is a political concept album, according to Watson it's "a commentary on where we've been, where we

You can hear Serenade To The City Monday through Friday nights from 10p until 2a, featuring ATL's evening jazz soundtrack.  Host Aaron Cohen this week is featuring cuts from the new RPM/Columbia/Legacy release Bennett and Brubeck, The White House Sessions: Live 1962.  This release is a snapshot, a snowglobe capturing a time of Camelot, a time teetering on change between old and new ways.
