September 23: Chris Standring At St. James Live

Sep 21, 2018

Programming on Jazz 91.9 WCLK is made possible in part by support from St. James Live, 3220 Butner Road in Atlanta(30331). St. James Live Presents Smooth Sundays with Contemporary Jazz Guitarist Chris Standring on Sunday, September 23. WCLK listeners are very familiar with Standring's guitar style, filled with heavy 1970's-style musical nuances and dream-like ambience. Standring has recorded with Bebe & Cece Winans and toured with Rick Braun. Doors open at 6pm and showtime is at 7pm.

Support for WCLK programming comes from The Atlanta Business League, presenting their 34th Annual Super Tuesday Conference happening Tuesday October 2 from 8am until 4pm at the Atlanta Marriot Marquis Hotel Downtown. The conference features informative, interactive self-help business enhancement workshops, the Annual  Women of Vision Breakfast and the Super Tuesday Awards Luncheon, recognizing African American women entrepreneurs and professionals. This year's conference theme is One Great Day: The Power of The Woman.

For close to two decades we've been supporting the music of Anthony David on Jazz 91.9 WCLK. His rootsy, acoustic soul & R&B sound has captivated the hearts and ears of our listeners and even those of President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. He's back with a new record coming out September 21 on Shanachie Entertainment entitled Hello Like Before: The Songs Of Bill Withers and it's a return to his down home musical roots. I had the opportunity to sit with him recently and talk in great detail about this project.

Steve Turre: The Very Thought of You

Steve Turre is one of the most prolific Jazz musicians going, with over 20 albums as a bandleader, with countless other performances on recordings, television and film going back to the early 1970s. Turre has brought his trombone to sessions for nearly everybody in Jazz. He has been a member of the Saturday Night Live Band for over 30 years.

This networking event encompasses African Americans from all walks of life and in all professions.

Carter Womack shares what networking really is and why it matters. He also speaks to why representation is important and how this annual event celebrates achievement and excellence that many overlook.

Georgia will continue using its touchscreen voting machines ahead of the midterms despite security concerns about the technology, a U.S. District Court judge ordered late Monday.

But Judge Amy Totenberg rebuked Georgia and state election officials over their handling of election security.

Georgia is one of 14 states using machines that lack a paper trail that voters can verify for themselves.

Netflix has released the official trailer for the upcoming documentary QUINCY. The film chronicles the life and career of entertainment icon – Quincy Jones.

Beyond his own acclaim as a trumpeter, producer, conductor, composer and arranger, Jones’ inimitable gift to discover the biggest talents of the past half century is unprecedented. He has shaped the pop culture landscape for 70 years, mentoring and cultivating the careers of young talents, from Lesley Gore and Michael Jackson to Oprah Winfrey and Will Smith.
