As part of our Nationwide Insurance quarterly conversations on finance, I speak with Derek Campbell Insurance Agency - Nationwide about National Life Insurance Awareness Month.
I ask Mr. Campbell about the need for personal life insurance if your employer provides this as part of your benefits package. He explains that these policies are never portable and if you lose your job, you lose your life insurance.
He goes on to describe the two types of life insurance: term life insurance and permanent life insurance. Mr. Campbell points out the differences in these policies and how they can be used based on your age and circumstances.
When I ask about medical requirements to receive a life insurance policy Mr. Campbell emphasizes the need to get life insurance when you're young. He goes on to say that there are policies where you might not need a medical exam if you pass a health screening questionnaire with your agent. Even then if you are referred to have a medical exam you are still able to obtain life insurance products even if at a higher rate.
Living Benefits are available from some forms of life insurance but more important, Mr. Campbell emphasizes that life insurance allows you to leave a legacy for your family. Making plans before your need them is always best.
