The Local Take On WCLK Features Sistagraphy - Celebrating 25 Years

Sistagraphy Celebrating 25 Years

I was joined last Saturday morning at 8:00am on The Local Take On WCLK by Sistagraphy. Sistagraphy is a collective of African-American women who photograph their and our stories. I spoke with Catherine Alston and Sue Ross about their organization. I asked the ladies about the changes in photography that have occured since the start of the organization. Film and dark rooms were the technology used at their inception.  Now many photographers use digital or phone cameras to capture images.

The ladies range from beginners to professionals but all get an opportunity to participate in exhibitions and learn more about the craft of photography.

In celebration of their 25 years, the City of Atlanta and State of Georgia will honor the group. A special exhibition has been curated around activism and will debut at the Auburn Avenue Research Library on Sunday, July 15th at 2pm.  There will be an opening reception and artist talk.

This celebration will go throughout the rest of 2018 with events taking place through October.  Additionally the organization will release their second book of photography this year.
