The Local Take: Reviving Baseball In The Inner City with John Hollins From ATL METRO RBI

ATL Metro RBI - Team of Young Players

This week The Local Take is talking sports.  African-Americans are playing baseball less than they ever have. There are less than half as many black major leaguers than there were in 1981.  I reached out to John Hollins of ATL Metro RBI to talk about how his organization is working in the community to change the game. John explains their name ATL Metro RBI, the RBI stands for Reviving Baseball in the Inner City.  He shares his opinion on how we've come to the place.  He explains that Baseball is a pastime, an intellectual game, usually passed down from father to son.

He speaks about the differences in the game now and then and how ATL Metro RBI is in place to encourage and ensure that African-American and inner city youth have an opportunity to succeed with baseball. ATL Metro RBI will be hosting try-outs on Sunday, August 12th at Redan High School.  Registration will start at 10am.  They are looking to recruit youth age 14 - 17.
