The Local Take Talks with Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard About Jamarion Robinson Case

This week on The Local Take I speak with Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard about his recent lawsuit filed against the U. S. Justice Department regarding the death of former Clark Atlanta University Student Jamarion Robinson. Robinson lost his life in 2016 after federal law enforcement attempted to apprehend him at this girlfriend's apartment in College Park. He was shot over 70 times.

DA Paul Howard explains that he filed the lawsuit after not receiving complete information from the GBI investigation. After writing letters requesting information and not receiving information, Fulton County even made request for the information via the Open Records Act. DA Howard shares that he found out this is happening across the country. Municipalities that request information regarding federal law enforcement acts are being stonewalled.

I asked DA Howard about why law enforcement didn't walk away from this engagement when it started to go wrong. He shared that many law enforcement offices around our community are now embracing procedures that allow them to de-escalate from a situation.  I also asked him about special procedures that should be used when engaging with citizens who have mental health challenges.
