The Local Take: Nicholas House And Homeless Families in a Pandemic

This week on WCLK's The Local Take(Saturday mornings 8am) I speak with Nicholas House Development Director Terrisita Terry about challenges being faced by the homeless community.

Terry shares that this has been an especially hard time with an increase in need and a decrease in aid due to their annual fundraiser being canceled.  Nicholas House has partnered with other agencies to help families shelter in place.  They have also initiated programs for children whose parents are still working.

The communal activies that normally took place around the kitchen and play areas have been changed to respect the need for social distancing.  They are concerned about residents who recently left the facility who may have trouble paying rent if they are not allowed to work.

They are using technology to continue educating residents and they are looking for mentors who can connect with their residents via technology platforms.  Homework tutors, financial advisors, are all needed.

If you are interested in helping The Nicholas House in their efforts please reach out to Ms. Terry at 404-622-0793 or visit their website
