The Local Take: Medicare Open Enrollment Ends December 7

Saturday morning at 8am on WCLK's The Local Take we're speaking with Seema Varna, an administrator with the Center for Medicare Services(CMS). The Open Enrollment period for Medicare runs through December 7th. Everyone is encouraged to do an honest annual assessment of their health needs. Often you may find a provider that answers more of your needs.

Seema Varna provided an update on the current flu season which has also started. She shares this year's flu shot is proving to be effective.  Also the social distancing and mask wearing to protect us from COVID-19 may cut down on flu exposure.

She shares why it is so important for participants to review their current coverage to make sure it is inline with current health needs. She advises that caregivers go to www.medicare.gov or call 1-800-Medicare. Each option provides you with an opportunity to compare your current coverage with other offerings.  She speaks about an initiative for seniors to receive insulin at a reduced rate.

We speak about seniors being susceptible to fraud and persuasive language, Varna emphasizes that the best way to work with a verified agent is to receive a referral from CMS either by phone or online.  She talks about new benefits and new offerings for seniors to save on drug pricing and tele-health services.
