The Local Take: DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond On May 1 Food Distribution Event

This week on WCLK's The Local Take(Saturdays 8am), we'll talk with Dekalb CEO Michael Thurmond, who wanted to let the community know about their plan to feed Dekalb County residents in need.  On Saturday May 1 begnning at 10am, the county will utilize the CARES Act (Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security) to provide over 3,000 families with food boxes. Working with the DeKalb Board of Commissioners for funding, the food distributions will continue each month. They generally take place on the last Saturday of the month after this special "Mother's Day" event.

Food donations from Georgia producers will include one dozen Grade A Georgia Grown eggs and chicken and are distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Participants will also receive fresh fruit and vegetables.

James R. Hallford Stadium, 3789 Memorial College Ave., Clarkston, GA 30021

Former K-Mart store parking lot at 5597 Buford Hwy NE, Doraville, GA 30340

Buck Godfrey Stadium, 2817 Clifton Springs Rd., Decatur, GA 30034

Big Miller Grove Missionary Baptist Church - 3800 Big Miller Grove Way, Stonecrest, GA 30038
