The Local Take Talks ArtsXchange Re-Imagine Democracy Festival July 24-25
Saturday morning at eight on WCLK's The Local Take, we will talk about one of Atlanta's oldest art communities, the ARTSXchange, located in East Point. Alice Lovelace, the board of directors president, joins us to speak about how the organization got started and their upcoming event.
The festival Re-Imagine Democracy will bring together artists from multiple disciplines. Lovelace explains that all activism is inspired by art. She emphasizes that artists have something to contribute. The ArtsXchange, while artist-centered, is about community activism.
Lovelace shares that the ArtsXchange is now open Tuesday - Saturday from 10am - 8pm. The festival taking place July 24 - 25 from 12noon - 9 pm will include workshops and resources available to the community. From Family Justice information to rights of passage programs for girls and boys. There will also be a professional jazz quartet and a gospel concert. Dance classes for children, voter registration, and exhibits from professional artists will be shared.
The ArtsXchange is celebrating 34 years of community outreach. Their space located at 2148 Newnan Street in East Point contains a gallery, a small theatre, and studio spaces for working artists.
