This time of year is always special because we get to hear classic holiday songs and how today’s artists put their twist on them. Here are some of my favorite picks and you’ll hear them all day long on Christmas Day on Jazz 91.9 WCLK:
Doug Jones- “This Christmas”- This Donny Hathaway classic is celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year. Doug gives this holiday classic a funky twist but remains true to the essence of this holiday classic.
Maysa- “Jingle Bells”- Maysa, puts her soulful touch to this holiday favorite creating a holiday day medley in the process. This definitely, isn’t the “Jingle Bells” you learned in grade school.
Kimberly Brewer-“Everyday Feels Like Christmas”- Kimbely deliver a uptempo Christmas song which puts you in a feel good mood. The harmonica solo by the iconic Stevie Wonder solidifies this as a song for all seasons.
Jonathan Karrant- “All I Want For Christmas”- Jonathan delivers a classic rendition of the holiday staple. From the first note all you’ll want is more of Jonathan as he swings his way through this Mariah Carey classic in a Jazz swing fashion.
Castella- “Sleigh Ride”- This song always reminds me of my teenage years Ice Skating at 75 Rockefeller Center under the world famous Christmas Tree in Rockefeller Plaza. This song would be bellowing from the speakers as we glided on ice. Take listen and create your own memories.
