The Local Take: The Return of Live Theater with Stepp Stewart's Motown Motor City Revue

This week on WCLK's The Local Take(Saturdays 8am), we’re welcoming back live theater to our community. The Marietta Theatre in the Square is starting live productions again with our own Stepp StewartThe Stepp Stewart’s Motown Motor City Revue production begins on June 4th and will run through August 1st, 2021.  The new production features local talent, including Avis LaShawn, LaMonte Williams, and Lauren Highsmith. Ms. Highsmith is a professional artist and academic, and she will play the role of Diana Ross in the production.

Lauren Highsmith shares how she and other creatives survived the pandemic.

She speaks about missing the energy that comes from live performances while in the virtual world. After over a year off the stage, the opportunity to finally perform has been exciting. She feels ready. Being back on the stage brought her a sense of comfort.

Highsmith is playing the iconic role of Diana Ross, and she speaks about studying her style and her eyes while readying to play this part again. She says about “putting on the wig” and shifting her mentality to embody the character. For Highsmith being back on stage is a chance to find the truth.
