October 4: The Local Take Supports Nicholas House - Off The Street and On Their Feet

Saturday on WCLK's The Local Take(Saturdays 8am) I spoke with Terrisita Terry from the Nicholas House about their Friday, October 4 fundraiser Off The Street And On Their Feet to increase awareness about homeless families in our community.

Ms. Terry explains that Nicholas House is one of the only shelters in Atlanta that houses families no matter how large.  Most shelters separate adolescents  of different sexes meaning a father with a daughter or a mother with sons over age 12 will be separated.  At Nicholas House families are allowed to be housed together.  Additionally at Nicholas House families are provided with financial education, job training, and support after they leave the shelter. Families are often considered the "hidden homeless" in our community.

Off The Street and On Your Feet - 2018 Kiplyn Primus participated in the Nicholas House Sleep Out.

Nicholas House is always in need of volunteers, Ms. Terry says she wants your "time and treasure" or even in-kind donations.  They can always use things for children, from books to games to snacks.  They are always looking for volunteers to tutor, help in the kitchen, assist parents and even to play.
