WCLK Signature Serenade Award of Excellence for Outstanding Achievement: Tabia Henry Akintobi, PhD

Jan 23, 2019

L-R Morris Baxter, Tabia Henry Akintobi, Phd, Kerwin D. Sims

In 2008, Charles Green, an avid Jazz 91.9 WCLK supporter, brought forth an idea to invite some of our listeners to serve as a guest host and play some of their jazz favorites while fundraising for the station. We clothed the idea by adding structure, incentives and a spirit of friendly competition. Since its inception, Signature Serenade guest hosts have combined to raise over $100, 000 during our spring, fiscal year-end and fall membership campaigns.

The coveted Jazz 91.9 WCLK Signature Serenade Award of Excellence for Outstanding Achievement is presented to the top Signature Serenade fundraiser for each membership campaign. In addition, each top fundraiser’s name is engraved on one of the plates of  a replica silver bowl that remains on display at WCLK.

The top fundraiser during our Fall 2018 Signature Serenade is Tabia Henry Akintobi, PhD; Director, Prevention Research Center, Morehouse School of Medicine. Dr. Akintobi raised over $3,000 in two hours.

She joined Morris Baxter and me on Wednesday morning during Morning Jazz to receive her award.

If you are interested in guest hosting a segment of Signature Serenade, please email Kerwin D. Sims, WCLK Membership Producer at ksims@cau.edu. Thanks to all of our members for your support of Atlanta's Jazz Station, 91.9 WCLK.
