The Hammonds House Museum Weathers Changing Times

The Hammonds House Museum, an arts institution in Atlanta's West End explains announcement about their recent closing

Our partners at the Hammonds House Museum have been in the news and almost went viral on social media when there seemed to be an announcement that they were closed or closing. Everyone had concerns about this pillar of our community and the excellent programming they provide. I reached out to their Board Chair, Imara Canady, to give us a few details about what is happening at the Hammonds House.

I asked if he could assure us that the Hammonds House is in good standing. He affirmed that the institution is good and will celebrate 35 years in 2023. He spoke about the future and that in another 35 years, the institution will celebrate its 70th anniversary.

When asked about surviving the Pandemic, Canady shared what we all know, that these have been challenging times for everyone. He explains that many funding sources turned to help people with housing and food needs. He said that the Hammonds House continued to raise funds and even received support from the Community Foundation of Greater Atlanta for the first time.

Canady explained the Hammonds House tie with the Fulton County Arts Commission and that their schedule is in line with that organization. They are hoping to resume programming in the late spring of this year. Canady emphatically proclaimed that the Hammonds House will always be a vision and mission-focused museum.
