Summer Drama at Marietta's New Theatre In The Square
The Marietta New Theatre in The Square is promoting their next production, The Realness, a 90’s Hip Hop love story that runs July 8th - 17th. The Local Take Day at the Play happens on Sunday, July 10th, at 3PM. Please join me at the play. If you’re looking for summer programs, the Marietta New Theatre in the Square offers something for everyone.
I ask Emil Thomas to tell us about The Realness. He speaks about the 90’s hip hop love story by Idris Goodwin. A young man from the suburbs goes to the city. He meets a young lady, and their love story begins. For tickets, click here.
Thomas shares information about “Musical Mondays,” which takes place monthly at the theatre. This month on June 20th, in support of Juneteenth, the theme will be Black Broadway Show Tunes. Participants should register to attend, take the stage, and belt out show toons from Dreamgirls, Memphis, Once on This Island, Aida, and more.
Additionally, the Marietta New Theatre in The Square is offering activating programs in hopes of filling the pipeline with new talent. For kids, the summer theatre program focuses on the technical work of the theatre. Thomas says actors work for a night or two, but stagehands and technicians work daily. This program will introduce kids to the technical side during a one-day class where they will learn about lighting, sound, and the back of the stage. Thomas again hopes to keep the pipeline filled for theatre work, television, and film.
Thomas shares coming up will be a concert series, and they will produce The Little Shop of Horrors this fall.
