Young African Leaders Initiative Fellow Niang Abdaramani Produces Local Dairy Products in Senegal

Mandela Washington Fellow and CAU 2022 Young African Leadership Initiative participant Niang Abdaramani is an agricultural entrepreneur. His first venture into dairy farming to produce milk was not successful. He speaks about the challenge of competing with tax-free powdered milk. He was able to provide pasteurized milk to his community but couldn’t compete. He made the pivot from producing milk to yogurt.

Abdaramani speaks about taking an agricultural class and a course in food processing. He also talks about his need to learn more skills to be a successful entrepreneur. Marketing and management included. His company HAYYO FOODS is now a leader in the production of yogurt.

I asked Abdaramani why we should visit Senegal. He shares that Senegal is the Capitol of Jollof Rice. He also speaks to the country's diversity, with Christians and Muslims working together to support each other.
