The Marietta Theatre in the Square is bringing Once Upon This Island to their stage now through August 13th, with shows Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday matinees. Emil Thomas, the Artistic Director, shares the storyline for this award-winning drama with us. Thomas speaks about two worlds, one with the haves, one with the have-nots, and both under the whims of the Gods. At its core, this “story within a story” is about the importance of love. Thomas says that audiences had requested this show for a few seasons.
This production brings new faces and voices to entertain. Thomas explains that while this is exciting, storytelling and artistry combine for spectacular theatre. He explains that theatre is the “root” of all entertainment. Humans have gathered around for millennia to hear stories, and community theatre brings this art form to the masses.
Thomas shares that they have launched a new capital campaign to finance the 2024 season, and patrons can donate to the theatre by adding their names to “a seat,” donating tickets, taking a class, or booking an event.
Upcoming events include a Selena Tribute, J. Henry Live, and fall education.
