This year, the United Way of Atlanta is working with Microsoft to educate our community about Artificial Intelligence. Workshops are being held throughout the metro area, and Laura Hieman from the United Way joins us to explain this new initiative.
I asked Heiman why the United Way was taking on AI and why there was a push to bring this information to the community. She shared that AI is the new wave of technology, and nonprofits in our community can use this tool to become more efficient. She uses the example of a nonprofit that focuses on improving childhood well-being, and by using AI, they can free up administrative time to focus on their purpose.
Heiman explains that the United Way of Atlanta is interested in more than support. They are working to ensure that nonprofit agencies can help beyond receipt of a grant check. They want to ensure that the organizations are sustainable and that their capacity can grow to support their efforts.
Microsoft is partnering with the United Way to bring this training to the organization and to increase the clarion call for all of us to embrace this new technology.
After speaking with Heiman, Ericka Smith from Microsoft joins us to speak about their commitment to bringing information about Generative AI to bring equity to our community. Smith explains that we are using AI now. If you watch Netflix or when you write a text. Smith is working to demystify AI by offering a free curriculum on LinkedIn. Smith is encouraging our community to embrace this new trillion-dollar industry. She believes it will accelerate equity and amplify the work of our community.
Smith wants us all to open the ChatGPT app and play around. She doesn’t expect everyone to become an expert, but we should get comfortable with the new possibilities available with generative AI.
