Marietta Theatre In The Square
Robby Myles Directs Dominique Morisseau's Detroit '67 part of her trilogy The Detroit Project. The play explores the tension in families and communities. Playing weekends May 3rd - May 12th at the Marietta Theatre in the Square.

Robby Myles a native of Chicago has charted a life course in the arts. He started as a child actor and as a teen created his own production company where he wrote and performed his own work. Opening on Friday, May 3rd Detroit ‘67 a work from Dominique Morisseau’s creativity tells the story of conflicted siblings at a time of unrest in the city. Myles brings this story to life on the stage at Marietta Theatre in the Square through May 12th. Robby Myles welcome to The Local Take.

I asked Myles how he transitioned from being a child in the arts to becoming an adult in the arts community. He speaks about being blessed with supportive parents. Myles shares that his mother worked on plays for their church and he tagged along often assisting the stagehands with building sets and more.

Myles started his own production company as a teen while working with the drama department at his school. He wrote and acted with friends in productions at a community theatre in the neighborhood. Myles speaks about learning to collaborate which has helped his work as a director.

I ask why he chose to tackle Dominique Morisseau’s play Detroit ‘67. The play explores the tension in families during a period in time when there was quite a bit of tension in the community. Myles speaks about the comparison between 1967 and 2024. Myles speaks about finding a talented staff from the costumer to the lighting and speaks to the different voices they bring to overall production.

Myles explains that his work in the theatre is about bringing Joy, Hope, and Possibilities to the audience's consciousness.
