Elders Igniting: More Stories To Tell features one-act plays from Dr. Janice Liddell, Jamil elShair and Carlton Mollette. The production will be presented at The ArtsXchange Saturday, May 18th and Sunday May 19th.

Dr. Janice Liddell is an award-winning playwright and professor emeritus at CAU. Liddell is producing a new project - Elders Igniting: Many More Stories to Tell. Third Eye Productions in conjunction with the Arts Exchange will bring this play to life on Saturday, May 18th, and Sunday, May 19th in support of Older Americans Month.

The production consists of three spectacular one-act plays by senior playwrights Dr. Janice Liddell, Jamil el Shair, and Carlton Molette.

Dr. Liddell took up a request from a friend at the age of fifty to write a play, not only did she write a play she won a contest with her work, and a new career was born. She speaks about older people taking on new challenges.

The subject of these plays focuses on the Baby Boomer generation crossing into their sixth decade and beyond with vim and vigor. Dr. Liddell explains that the three one-act plays stand on their own. While they all focus on older people in our community the stories they tell showcase the voices that many of us don’t hear.

The idea for the three one-act plays came during the pandemic when she watched a British television show that was a compilation of stories about and from seniors. She put on a producer hat for the first time to bring us Elders Igniting.

I asked Liddell about the Baby Boomer generation and their place in the world and she speaks about the fact that this generation will be around for a few more decades. She also encourages older Americans to try the adventure, career, or anything that they always wanted to do. She insists that now is their time.
