The ArtsXchange celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2024 with innovative and compelling programming. Currently, A Room of Her Own exhibition celebrates the work of women from throughout the 40-year history of the organization. The curator Lisa Tuttle reached out to women who had studios and worked at the ArtsXchange and brought together a wonderful exhibition. The work on display at the Jack Sinclair Gallery includes paintings, mixed media, sculpture, ceramics, and more. Lisa Tuttle joins us to discuss the work.
Tuttle speaks about reaching out to the many women artists who have been associated with the ArtsXchange. Some women she knew and some she met in curating but all of the women sent their best works. The theme A Room of Her Own speaks to the limited support often provided to women in the arts.
I mention that the works seem to flow and belong together in the way that the exhibition is presented. Tuttle explains that it wasn’t deliberate but more serendipitous. She speaks to all of the participants being professional and accomplished artists.
