Dr. La'Neice Littleton a CAU alum and now the Director of Community Collaborations for the Atlanta History Center invites the community to Home Plate a Juneteenth Celebration exploring Black Baseball and Culinary traditions on June 15th from 10AM - 4PM.

TheAtlanta History Centerwill celebrate Juneteenth on June 15th with programming, exhibitions, and more. Signed into law as a federal holiday by President Joe Biden in 2021, today, Juneteenth serves as a holiday to reflect on our nation's history and commemorate emancipation. It is also a time to celebrate the impact of Black culture on American society at large. Using the theme “HomePlate” the Atlanta History Center event will focus on Baseball and BBQ. Dr. La'Neice Littleton an alum of CAU is now the Director of Community Collaborations with the Atlanta History Center and she joins us to discuss the upcoming celebration.

Before getting to the Atlanta History Center event, I asked Dr. Littleton about becoming a public historian and how this became her path. She shares that history chose her and mentions growing up with her grandmother who is now ninety years old. Juneteenth was always celebrated regionally and became a federal holiday in 2021, Littleton provides a historical perspective and explains that she grew up celebrating Juneteenth in Denver, Colorado.

This year The Atlanta History Center celebrates Juneteenth with a focus on Black culinary history and springtime’s favorite game Baseball. There will be music, food, and activities for all ages. Families are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy the festivities.

Registration is optional and will help to enter without standing in line. There will also be a complimentary shuttle running between the Lenox Square Marta Station and the Atlanta History Center. Littleton encourages participants to plan their day with the online schedule of activities.

In addition to food tastings there will also be a signature cocktail.
