This week on The Local Take I speak with Chef Ashley Keyes of C. H. O. I. C. E. S. (Center Helping Obesity In Children End Successfully). Chef Ashley explains how the organization grew out of an informal club started by her parents and the parents of a few friends to assist the teens as they approached and defined their relationship with food.
The organization has grown and now offer Cooking with CHOICES, a 3-week family healthy cooking course where parents and their children cook, talk about their relationship food and learn healthy recipes that can be easily duplicated at home.
Chef Ashley explains that you can use herbs and spices to add flavor without using salt. She shares a quick healthy recipe that is an alternative to popular "helper" box meals.
I ask Chef Ashley how she turned her love of food into a profession and she speaks to being a student at the Cordon Bleu Culinary Institute and while she has a day job with a popular kiosk at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport, her passion is working with kids and families.
