The Local Take COVID19 Stories - Julia Davis and #BeProactive Early Voting Initiative

Saturday morning at eight on WCLK's The Local Take I speak with Julia Davis, a Spelman College and Southern California Film School graduate home during the Pandemic. Many of us had goals of cleaning closets, planting gardens, or making sourdough bread during the pandemic downtime, but Ms. Davis beat us all by starting a non-profit organization to provide rides to the polls during the early voting weeks.

Her #BeProactive Early Voting Initiative has launched just in time to give rides to the polls for those in need.

I asked Ms. Davis how she came to create this initiative and why she chose to use her downtime in such a constructive manner.   She explains that she worked with established community groups and has made arrangements to transport those in need from community locations, including Mt. Calvary Baptist Church and St. Marks AME, both familiar landmarks in the community.
They have volunteers who are equipped with PPE and hand sanitizer. The vehicles that they are using for transportation allow for social distancing. Patrons will be delivered to their voting center and returned to their pick-up location after they vote.
Julia shared that many people and organizations have assisted her in getting the initiative moving. For anyone needing a ride to the polls, you can reach out to #BeProActive Early Voting Initiative
