The Local Take Celebrates the 70th Anniversary of The Community Foundation of Metro Atlanta

This week on WCLK's The Local Take(Saturdays 8am), we're helping to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Community Foundation of Greater Atlanta. Frank Fernandez, the new CEO and President, is joining us to talk about the celebration, including a gift to Atlanta. From Thursday, November 4th - Sunday, November 7th general admission for you and your family to the National Center for Civil and Human Rights Museum will be on the Community Foundation of Greater Atlanta.

Frank Fernandez shares with us that the Community Foundation founded 70 years ago came together when several banks wanted to give back to the community.  Today over 700 donors make up the endowment for the organization.

When I ask about any new initiatives for the institution Fernandez speaks about his joining the organization specifically to focus on equity. He speaks about having a broader outreach to the Black, Latinx, and Asian organizations with more equitable funding. He shares that there was a reckoning in the arts community and that they’ve taken steps to recalibrate their practices with a strong focus on Black-led groups.

He shares that the Community Foundation partnered with United Way and distributed $30 million dollars to non-profits in the Atlanta community. This was to provide support to organizations working to alleviate the many challenges that came from the Pandemic.

Frank Fernandez the new President and CEO of the Community Foundation of Greater Atlanta has a focus on equity.

As part of the celebration of their 70th anniversary there will be complimentary admission November 4th - November 7th at The National Center for Civil and Human Rights. Fernandez talks about the center sharing stories of human dignity from across the globe.

Fernandez shares that he took on this role due to the mandate on equity. He hopes to touch as many people as possible while guiding the Community Foundation of Greater Atlanta.

Join me on November 4th as they kick off their anniversary celebration at the Center for Civil and Human Rights.
