The Local Take: Who's Who In Black Atlanta with Mark Hayes

This week on WCLK's The Local Take(Saturdays 8am), we’re talking Who’s Who in Black Atlanta. The program honors movers and shakers in the metro area. For the last thirty years, this organization and platform highlighted Black professionals in most major markets, including Chicago, Charlotte, Dallas, and Washington, DC.

Due to COVID19, this year’s event is closed to the general public, but the recognition and honor continue.

Mark Hayes, the National News Director for Real Times Media and former anchor of Good Day Atlanta, speaks to us about the annual event.

He explains that the Who’s Who platform normalizes Black success. They scour the country and find the most dynamic, innovative professionals in our community. Hayes says that their success means that all can “get out there and do something special.” Making a contribution where you are is always possible.

Mark Hayes National News Director for Real Times Media and former anchor of Good Day Atlanta speaks with us about the 2021 Who's Who in Black Atlanta event.

Hayes reminds us that Atlanta is a Mecca for African Americans in the areas of corporate and entrepreneurship. Our success is not an aberration.

I asked about highlights for the 2021 class, and he spoke about Renee Montgomery. Ms. Montgomery is the first WNBA player to receive approval to purchase a team. She is part of a three-member investor group granted permission to buy the Atlanta Dream.
